No way to get to the buffet without walking whether w were. When we went to the buffet for Sunday breakfast, my son and teammates were stopped by security because they couldn't be on the gaming floor. My son and a couple of teammates (several teammates and teams staying here this weekend due to high hotel rates in Duluth) went outside and were sitting outside and security made them go back in, if they were really staying there, because they weren't babysitters. I haven't been to a hotel that didn't have these in rooms in several years. We got to our room and found no fridge or microwave. When we made the reservation, we were told the pool should be reopened after COVID. We were there for a family getaway and basketball tournament for my son. Overall, we'd probably stay here again, but would want a Tower room next time, even though it means no jacuzzi tub, unless they would renovate the older part of hotel.… Since we only had a 2 night stay, we didn't really need maid service, so at least you get something in return. Also, if you choose not to have maid service, you received a $5 voucher for any of the eateries in the casino. We did not eat at the buffet this trip, but my husband got breakfast at the Sage Deli one morning. I just think they should take some money and put it into updating that part of the hotel. Even just flushing the toilet, it was so loud. I'm sure they could hear our stuff as well, especially when we did use the jacuzzi tub. Our biggest complaint would be that if either of our neighboring rooms got in the shower, tub, or flushed the toilet, it was really loud and annoying. Considering these types of rooms cost the most, you would think they would put a few at least in the newer part of the hotel.

I was surprised to hear they don't have any jacuzzi rooms in the newer tower. There wasn't anything necessarily wrong with the room, just was a bit underwhelming. We chose to stay here because it's close to Duluth (20ish minutes) but allowed us to have some entertainment in the evening. We stayed in one of the jacuzzi rooms for a weekend getaway. Next time I will stay at a lower priced hotel in Cloquet (5 minute drive) and eat and gamble at Black Bear. This 12 floor property only had one ice machine located on a smoking floor. They ran out of hot water for the shower one evening. True for the casino, which was very nice, but some floors were smoking floors and they stunk to high heaven.

The sign up front advertised “ 100 % Smoke Free”. I was here two nights and they didn’t clean up our room so I had to call them.

No fridge, no microwave, and the typical small shower tub combo you get at a Super 8 for half the cost. First off, at $140 a night I expected a nicer, bigger room. The restaurant was so good I am fine with overlooking the following criticisms. But if they fixed these the experience would be so much better.

The casino gives you $5 on the free players card so that’s a nice perk. Most items on their high end steak menu were $30 to $35 and all their fancy appetizers were $10. We ate here two nights, the prime rib was fabulous and the crab crake appetizer was wonderful. Great food, incredibly reasonable prices, and fast and friendly service. The good: The Seven Fires Steakhouse was fabulous. Hotels near J M Paine Presbyterian Church.
